Great Home Remedies

For those who do not mind the smell, raw garlic can have many great health benefits. While overusing it may lead to things like flatulence and heartburn, and rubbing it directly on the skin may cause burning, many people have found that garlic can help prevent a herpes outbreak.

Despite the fact that pharmaceutical companies cannot put a patent on it, researchers around the world are still submitting reports on garlic's amazing anti-viral, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. Garlic has also displayed antioxidant and immune boosting capabilities as well as anti-inflammatory properties. Science has shown that it has proven benefits for people suffering from diabetes and for those who are at risk for developing cancer and heart disease. Consuming garlic can also lead to good heart health since it helps lower bad cholesterol and blood pressure, aids in better blood flow and can even help prevent stroke.

Researchers point to the sulfur compounds (the stuff that gives it such odoriferous pungency), especially allicin as the reason why garlic is such a powerhouse of health benefits. Allicin is formed when garlic is chopped, crushed or chewed and makes its presence known by giving off that pungent scent that can both repel and attract. The more garlic is milled, the more allicin it creates but the allicin then start to quickly dissipate, especially after it is exposed to heat.

In the lab, the allicin compound has displayed the ability to kill off viruses, bacteria and fungus making garlic a potent weapon against bodily infections which are caused by bacteria, fungus, or viruses. During World War I, garlic was actually use to help stop the spread of gangrene on wounded soldiers. Garlic can be used infections of all kinds including coughs, colds, athlete's foot and yeast infections. It can also be used to help stop the spread of skin infections such as herpes and warts.

Diallyl Sulphides are also formed, while not antifungal like allicin, these compounds are a bit hardier and are great for your heart and immune system. They can boost your circulation, lower your cholesterol, which in turn will help keep your body from being stressed out, keeping breakouts to a minimum. Garlic also contains many other vitamins and minerals including Vitamin C, B6, selenium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, manganese and flavonoids.

Natural Cure for Herpes

Since garlic is an all around disease fighter, it serves as a great natural alternative therapy for many common ailments including acne, cold sores and herpes complex viruses. It helps boost the immune system and fights off infections with its anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties.

While garlic can be used as a rub, it can be harsh on the skin and may even burn. It is better to ingest it and let it work on you from the inside out. Crush or cut two cloves of garlic and put it in some lukewarm water. Drink this twice a day with food. This will help detoxify your body and fight off infection. You can also put milled garlic into some warm olive oil and then spread it on your food right after cooking it. Garlic can disagree with you, so this treatment is not for everyone. If you have negative reactions to garlic, there are different garlic extracts that may prove beneficial .
