Great Home Remedies
The many health benefits of walnuts have been the subject of numerous scientific studies and papers over the past few years. Even before modern science discovered their importance, walnuts have been recognized for their medical value. The Chinese have long used walnuts to help with knee and back support and to help with the function of kidneys and digestive system. In India, the walnut is so revered; it is used as an offering to the gods. Today, the humble walnut is recognized as an elite super food that is good for your health, especially when it comes to lowering bad cholesterol. They are an excellent source of protein and are loaded with essential minerals including magnesium, iron, and manganese. They are also an important source of omega oils.An extensive medical review that examined the results of 25 different studies, found that eating just 67 grams of walnuts (about 7 walnuts) per day can help lower your bad (LDL) cholesterol levels by 7% and also help improve your levels of good (HDL) cholesterol. Unlike animal fats (which also contain Omega Fatty Acids) walnuts only have a small amount of saturated fat and contain no cholesterol, Instead, like olives and other vegetables, they contain ample amounts of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. They are also loaded with protein and fiber, making them a great energizing snack that can help with overall digestive health and stabilize blood sugar. They also contain polyphenols, such as Ellagic Acid, which have powerful anti-inflammatory properties and can help neutralize free radicals and stop cell damage.
While walnuts are high in calories and fat, you only need to eat about seven a day in order to enjoy all the nutritional benefits that they can provide. Eat as a snack with a piece of fruit, add them to your hot cereal, sprinkle them on a salad, or add them to your yogurt. Walnut spread that is great on toast or in a smoothie is also available. Just seven walnut a day can help you lower your bad cholesterol and keep you healthy and active for years to come.
